Roger O’niel Bronstad, 81, of Chetek, passed away at home Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012.

He was born in the Town of Howard, Chippewa County, on March 26, 1931, the son of Oscar and Lillian (Paulsrud) Bronstad. He graduated from Chetek High School in 1949 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951, serving 20 years active duty and 10 years in reserves. He was honorably ranked as a chief petty officer.

In 1967, Roger married Mary Sue Johnson in Medford, Mass. They lived together in Chetek, where Roger enjoyed his 15 years of work on Rt. 3 as a rural mail carrier. Roger was a good husband and father. He showed love for the whole family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Harvey “Eddie” Ashmore; and four brothers, Elno, Lyle, Douglas and Kenneth Bronstad.

Roger leaves to celebrate his memory his loving wife, Mary Sue Bronstad, of Chetek; three daughters, Valorie (Greg) Thomas, of Riverside, Calif., Janie Peres, of Madison, and Brenda (Dave) Rodgers, of Riverside; one son, Randy (Tanya) Bronstad, of River Falls; seven siblings, Ideen Parks, of Chetek, Corrine “Corky” Siverling, of Bloomer, Herman Bronstad, of Chetek, Dennis Bronstad, of San Diego, Calif., Basil (Colleen) Bronstad, of Chetek, Sharon (Darrel) Boggess, of Cottage Grove, Minn., Bryce (Geraldine “Gerri”) Bronstad, of Stoughton; two sisters-in-law, Ann Bronstad, of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn., and Garnet Bronstad, of Chetek; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family and friends.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Burnham-Ours Funeral Home in Chetek, with Pastor Philip Rohler officiating. Military honors were provided by American Legion Post #179 and VFW Post #10331. He was laid to rest at Lake View Cemetery in Chetek.
