Vernon Selmer Daniel Halverson, 86, of Dallas, peacefully went to his new home in Heaven to be with the Lord Jesus Christ whom he loved deeply, Thursday, July 29, 2010, at Dallas Care & Rehabilitation surrounded by his family.
He was born July 17, 1924, to Edwin and Inga (Severude) Halverson in the Town of Maple Grove, the sixth of eight children. He began his education in the one-room Maple Grove School, finishing through the eighth grade in Chetek. On June 5, 1948, he married Phyllis Thompson in St. Paul, Minn. Their union was blessed with six children and years of hard work egg hauling and farming. Phyllis preceded him in death Nov. 16, 1985. On May 2, 1987, he married Carol (Brunner) Miller, at Minneapolis, Minn.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Dallas; five sons, Edwin (Sylvia) Halverson, of Barron, Vernon P. (Lisa) Halverson, of Edgewood, Wash., Alden (Debbie) Halverson, of Dallas, Dennis (Sharon) Halverson, of Cameron, and Gordon (Karen) Halverson, of Eleva; a daughter, Marilyn (Don) Erlitz, of Redmond, Calif.; 22 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven stepchildren; two sisters, Muriel Olson, of Oregon, and Leonie (Don) Cottrell, of Los Angeles, Calif.; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his first wife, Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Anita; and four brothers, Phillip, Orten, Alden and James.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday from Grace Family Ministry in Hillsdale with the Revs. Rick Longanecker, Donald Erlitz, Michele Michaels and Chad Halverson officiating with interment in the Dallas Cemetery in the Town of Dallas. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Home in Dallas and also for the hour prior to services at the church Saturday.
