Thirteen teams battled for the top spots at the fourth annual Duggy Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 11. Nelson was a police lieutenant and volunteer firefighter in Chetek for over 30 years. The Nelson family began the Memorial Golf Tournament in Duggy’s memory for the purpose of establishing scholarships to any seniors in Barron County who plan to pursue careers in law enforcement, as firefighters or as EMTs at a vocational/technical school, college or university. Pictured above are the golfers who participated in the 18-hole golf scramble. In first place, at 14-under par (21) was Team Illinois—Kyle Davis, Matt Davis, Mason Davis and Mike Mason; in second place, at 9-under par (26), was Team Six Lakes—Dave Larson, Buddy Braun, Wendy Dallman and Scott Meyer; in third place at 6-under par (29) was the team of Dan Peterson, Scott Christensen, Albert Hickok and Lawerence Lyste. Pin event winners were: longest drive in fairway, hole No. 1—Dan Peterson; longest putt, hole No. 2—Gena Nelson; closest to pin in two shots, hole No. 3—Andy Clements; longest drive, hole No. 5—Codie Minette; longest drive, hole No. 8—Hunter Nelson; closest to pin in regularion, hole No. 9—Scott Meyer. The scholarship fund also hosted two betting holes, raffles, three tables of silent auction items and a 50/50 drawing. “The weather was beautiful, the crowd was enthusiastic and the food delicious. The event had a large number of hole sponsors that contributed to the scholarship fund, making the event successful” stated Sue Norton, owner of Sunset View Golf Course.
