The death of an infant is being investigated by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department and Barron County Medical Examiner’s Office, the BCSD said on Tuesday, Aug. 20.

As of midday Tuesday, that was the only information the department was releasing, said Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald.

Barron County dispatch logs said a 10-month-old baby was not breathing, according to a report from 4:19 a.m. Fitzgerald confirmed that this was the incident being investigated.

First responders, sheriff’s deputies and a Marshfield Medical Center ambulance were paged to the address, southwest of Haugen. The Life Link III helicopter responded, arriving near the scene around 5 a.m., logs said. By 5:35 a.m., deputies requested a medical examiner respond to the scene.
