A New Auburn man is free on a $2,500 signature bond pending a court hearing in December 2020 related to charges of misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct, in connection with an incident reported Oct. 2 at a Turtle Lake hotel.

A complaint filed Oct. 5 identifies the defendant as Richard J. Wendt, 40, of New Auburn.

According to the complaint, a woman called 911 from the Bloomer Mayo Hospital on Oct. 2, and was later put in touch with Turtle Lake police.

The woman said that she, the defendant and their 2-year-old daughter were staying in Turtle Lake when the defendant became angry after finding social media messages on her phone.

He allegedly grabbed her by the hand and kicked her. Following the incident, the woman left the hotel with her daughter and drove to Bloomer.

She suffered what was later diagnosed as a dislocated left thumb, which she had treated at the Bloomer hospital. The woman also had visible injuries on her legs, which she alleged were inflicted when the defendant kicked her.
