Fire department rescue crews rushed to a grain bin full of corn south of Turtle Lake on Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 21, after it was reported a man was trapped inside.

The incident was reported at 12:22 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies, Gold Cross Ambulance, Life Link III helicopter and firefighters from Turtle Lake, Dallas and Cumberland fire departments responded.

Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said rescuers worked for more than an hour to free the man, who was then airlifted to a regional trauma hospital.

The man died later that day from his injuries, Fitzgerald said.

The Barron News-Shield reported the victim was Richard Fick, 63, of Turtle Lake.
