A Turtle Lake man has died after his UTV lost control on CTH T, north of Turtle Lake, said the Polk County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday, Nov. 29. The man was identified as Joseph Kasper, of rural Turtle Lake.
The crash happened around 11 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28, in the 1500 block of CTH T. The driver, the sole occupant, was injured and unconscious. Sheriff’s deputies, Department of Natural Resources wardens, Cumberland Area Ambulance, Turtle Lake Fire and first responders and a Life Link helicopter were paged.
Unfortunately, the 43-year-old man passed away while en route to the Cumberland Hospital to meet the helicopter.
The UTV appeared to be heading south on CTH T when it lost control, rolled and ejected the driver. The sheriff’s office said evidence at the scene and witness’ statements appeared to show that alcohol and the speed of the UTV were factors. The driver was not wearing a seat belt.
The crash was under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, DNR and Polk County Medical Examiner’s Office.
