Rice Lake Fire Department extinguished two garage fires at 1869 18-1/2 Avenue in rural Rice Lake early Thursday, Feb. 18.

The fire was reported at 1:22 a.m., with firefighters arriving on scene around 1:30 a.m. Two garages had burned to the ground, with the building and all the contents being a total loss.

The fire was under control by 1:54 a.m. and fire units were back in service at 2:34 a.m. In all, 14 firefighters responded, along with the Marshfield Medical Center ambulance. No injuries were reported.

Feb. 7 fire cause

According to the RLFD, a fire at a garage at 1515 Haugen Ave., Rice Lake, on Feb. 7 was ruled accidental, due to the improper disposal of ashes into a trash container that was close to the southwest corner of the garage. The fire had traveled up the exterior of the garage into the garage attic.
