A 15-year-old Almena boy who nearly drowned in Cumberland was airlifted by Life Link III helicopter to Regions Hospital on Saturday afternoon, May 25.

The Cumberland Police Department said the teen was in the water off the fishing pier at Lakeside Beach Park in Cumberland. The water was about 8 feet deep and the boy was submerged for about 10 minutes before he was pulled out. CPD said the teen had a heartbeat.

A 911 call at 2:38 p.m. on Saturday alerted police, sheriff’s deputies and first responders, according to Barron County dispatch logs. The caller said the teen had jumped in the water and hadn’t come up. A boat was launched and the teen was pulled from the water by 2:50 p.m.

EMS transported the teen to the Cumberland hospital. Life Link landed in the baseball fields nearby, picking up the teen for transport to Regions.

As of Sunday, May 26, CPD said no new information was available on the teen’s status.
