The Wisconsin State Patrol released the names of the victims and drivers involved in fatal traffic crash on Monday afternoon, Jan. 13, on CTH I, south of Chetek.
One passenger, a man, was killed and two people were injured in a westbound 2002 Ford Escape that collided with the rear of a semi. The semi was traveling east and crossed traffic to north on 22-3/4 Street. The crash happened around 12:52 p.m.
The passenger killed was Robert J. Warnecke, 46, of Dallas. He was sitting in the front passenger seat.
The driver was Edward J. Wakefield, 53, of Dallas. He was airlifted by Life Link 3 to Mayo hospital in Eau Claire with nonlife-threatening injuries. He had been wearing a seat belt.
A passenger in the rear seat was Ashley L. Halpin, 33, of Chippewa Falls. She was transported by ambulance to Mayo hospital in Barron and later released. Halpin was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the semi was Shawn C. Robbins, 42, of Rice Lake. He was not injured and was wearing a seat belt at the time.
A consensual blood draw was obtained from Wakefield to rule out impairment, the state patrol said. Any traffic citations or charges for Wakefield, Halpin or Robbins were pending the results of the investigation.
The crash remained under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol as of Monday evening.
