A 38-year-old rural Cadott woman and her 13-year-old son were killed when the woman's 2004 Chevy Monte Carlo hit a semi truck and trailer head-on on Hwy. 29 near Chippewa Falls.

The crash happened at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 10, on Hwy. 29, east of 190th Street, in the town of Lafayette, in Chippewa County, according to the Chippewa County Sheriff's Office.

The driver of the semi, a 39-year-old man from Maiden Rock, was not injured.

Witnesses and the driver of the semi said the Monte Carlo was heading west on Hwy. 29 when it crossed into the median and into the eastbound lanes, striking the semi.

Responding sheriff's deputies found the woman and her son ejected from the vehicle onto the road and shoulder. Both were deceased.

Names have not yet been released, pending notification of family.

Assisting with the crash investigation is the Wisconsin State Patrol, Chippewa County Coroner's Office and Chippewa Fire District.
