A 6-year-old girl and two men died in a house fire near Menomonie on Friday evening, July 10.

The Dunn County Sheriff’s Office said the fire was reported to 911 at 10:01 p.m. in the 6800 block of 270th Avenue in Spring Brook Township, southeast of Menomonie.

Menomonie Fire & Rescue, other fire departments and Dunn County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene.

Fire people were in the residence at the time of the fire. Two women were able to escape with only minor injuries. They were treated by EMS and released at the scene.

Two men and a child perished in the fire. The men were identified by the sheriff’s office as Merrill Tande, 76, and Christopher Rouse, 49. The 6-year-old girl was not named. All were residents of rural Menomonie.

The fire was being investigated by the state fire marshal, Dunn County Sheriff’s Office and Dunn County Medical Examiner’s Office. The sheriff’s department said the fire did not appear to be suspicious in nature.
