A 23-year-old man from Cadott was injured in one-vehicle crash on Hwy. 53 near Chetek early Friday morning, Feb. 1.
According to the Barron County Sheriff's Department, Jack Holstein, the driver, was heading north on Hwy. 53 and struck a guardrail just north of Chetek. Sheriff's deputies, Chetek police officers, Chetek Ambulance Service, Chetek Fire Department and Life Link 3 helicopter responded to the call at 12:12 a.m.
Holstein was extricated from the vehicle and airlifted with serious injuries to a hospital in Eau Claire. He was the only occupant in the car.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, said Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald. Hwy. 53 was closed for an hour.
According to Barron County dispatch logs, a fire fighter was spit in the face during the call and a deputy was called about the matter.
