Chetek Chain of Lakes is a destination for fishing of all sorts, especially when it comes to fishing on the hard water. Whether you’re jigging for panfish or targeting trophy walleyes and giant northern pike on tip-ups, ice anglers should start planning ahead for the three major ice fishing tournaments held on the Chetek Chain as the calendar flips to 2022.

Fire department contest

The first ice fishing contest of the new year on the six-lake chain this winter is the Chetek Fire Department’s 28th annual Adult and Kids Ice Fishing Tournament Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. As usual, the contest will land on Wisconsin’s Free Fishing Weekend for the winter, which will be Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 15-16, 2022.

In the fire department’s fishing contest, the top three winners by weight of each fish species—northern pike, bass, walleye, crappie, bluegill, perch—in both the adult and kids’ divisions will be awarded prizes.

In the adult division, the first-place prize is $200, second place is $100 and third place is $50.

Yet-to-be-determined prizes for the kids’ division will be awarded for first through third places.

There will be raffle tickets sold for the event, where contestants could win the grand prize, a 2021 Polaris Ranger 570 side-by-side. Second place is $250, third is $100 and fourth is $50. Tickets are six for $10 or $2 each. Raffle prize winners need not be present to win.

Additional bonus raffle prizes will be drawn every half-hour throughout the day. Contestants must be present to win bonus raffle prizes.

There will also be several gun raffle prizes— two Ruger AR-15s, a Smith & Wesson AR-15 (M&P15), a Glock G17 9mm, a Ruger Max-9 and a Glock G42—along with various raffle prizes available at $10 per chance.

Concessions, raffle boards and weigh-ins will take place on shore in the Pokegama Lakeside Cantina parking lot.

First-, second- and third-place winners in the adult division for northern pike, walleye, bass and panfish will be awarded Chamber Bucks.

In the 14-and-under contest for kids, prizes will be awarded for the top three finishers.

Besides ice fishing prizes, participants will have the chance to win raffle drawings. Raffle tickets are available and will be sold at the contest for $5 each or five for $20.  A raffle ticket must be purchased to enter the contest.

Raffle prizes will include a Henry Big Boy .44 mag (grand prize/first place); a Mission MXB-360 crossbow (second place); a Ruger American Compact Synthetic 7mm-08 (third prize); a Vexilar FLX-20 Pro Pack II (fourth prize); a Henry Golden Boy .22 (fifth prize); a $300 Scheels gift card (sixth prize); a K-Drill Combo (seventh prize); and a $250 Antczak Angus gift card (eighth prize). Raffle prize winners need not be present to win. There will be several other door prizes drawn from these raffle tickets.

Besides the raffle tickets, there will also be numerous gun raffles and other major prizes raffled off during the ice fishing contest. Stop by Pokegema Lakeside Cantina the day of the event to get into these raffles.

Registration and fish weigh-in will take place at Pokegema Lakeside Cantina. There will also be food and refreshments available in the same location throughout the day.

Proceeds from the contest go toward the Chetek Hydroflites ski team and their youth program.  Come help support the Chetek Hydroflites and help make this their biggest tournament ever.
