Mrs. Banks will hold the position for two years. … Jean Fostvedt, of Chetek, departed for Wisconsin Dells to join the Tommy Bartlett Water Ski Show. Jean is the only skier in the show from Wisconsin. … Following the annual Cub Scout picnic, Chetek Cubmaster John Ours presented the following awards: Roger Hainstock and Randy Albrecht, Wolf badge and gold arrow point; Eugene Brouillard, Wolf badge, gold and silver arrow points; Ronald Gunderman, Bear gold arrow point; Jim Zwadlo, Bear gold and silver arrow points; Greg Zwadlo, Lion badge; Brentt Ramharter, Bear silver arrow point; and Charles Strong, Lion gold arrow point.

Two Chetek High School graduating seniors were awarded four-year ROTC scholarships. Ed Bonkoski was awarded the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Scholarship, and Jim Meilahn the Army Officers Training Corps Scholarship. … Mr. and Mrs. John DuBois, of Chetek, celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on May 20 with an open house at St. Boniface Church. … Sp. 5 Kelly Parks, of Chetek, left this week for duty in Vietnam. He recently returned to the States after 22 months of duty in Germany. … David Toycen, of Sand Creek, is scheduled to receive a bachelor’s degree from Lawrence University in Appleton. A philosophy major, Toycen is vice president of the senior class.

The Modern Modes ladies’ shop of Chetek, founded in 1964, will go out of business soon, owners Mildred and Babe Galbraith announced. The building, located at 221 Knapp St., will be sold or leased. … Blaine Wheeler, 17, placed fourth in the bulldogging event at the Wisconsin State Rodeo at Baraboo, and qualified to compete in the National High School Rodeo at Fargo, N.D. … Lawrence Lutz, of Chetek, graduated from the University of Minnesota with a pharmacy degree. Mr. Lutz graduated with cum laude honors and is interning in St. Paul, Minn., at Setzer’s pharmacy. … Gary Taft, of the Chetek FFA Chapter, participated in the Sectional Tractor Driving Contest in Turtle Lake. He placed seventh in the overall contest and was first in the written examination.

A Chetek father and son were both pronounced dead on arrival at the Barron hospital after being gassed by silo gas at their farm on CTH D, just east of Chetek. Dead are Duane Lindblad and his son, Jeff, who operated a 400-plus-acre dairy farm. … Ten young Chetek ladies will be vying for the title of Miss Chetek at the annual pageant. Contestants include Tracy Cooper, Michelle Davis, Barbara Esswein, Barbara Gehl, Carol Harrison, Cheri Johnson, Jill Riewestahl, Aew Sanmai, Angela Solberg and Dawn Tyson. … Mary and Jerry Kohler, summer home residents in Chetek, were passengers on the first Learjet airplane ever to land on the Chetek Airport runway.

Ed Kleingartner, of Eau Claire, purchased Ohde Pharmacy from Bill Ohde. Kristin Marten is the new pharmacist in charge at the drugstore, which has been operating under the Ohde name for nearly 40 years in Chetek. … Candidates for Miss Chetek include Shelby Eckerman, Nicole Mujwid, Jennifer Bohl, Kristy Rathbun, Sherry Cook and Laura Newman. … Wisconsin Gas will begin constructing natural gas lines in July to serve the west side of Prairie Lake, and expects to begin providing service by late August. … Mary Ann and Melvin Dalrymple, of Dallas, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house at the Chetek Senior Citizens Center. … New Auburn High School FFA Chapter representatives attending the state convention included Brenda Scheil, Shelly Hyke, Sandy Baalrud, Anita Jouppi, Stephani Omtvedt and Adam Davis.

Candidates are Jessica Anderson, Sarah Bossany, Becky Cook, Rachel Harrod, Wendy Keller, Jessica Mosier, Nicque Ormston, Sara Prorok, Connie Schomburg, Krystal Thompson, Cassandra Uchytil and Gwyn Wilcox. … Erin Lindblad received a degree in nursing from Viterbo College in La Crosse on May 16. … An open house will be held in honor of Bill and Louise Adams’ 50th wedding anniversary at Sportsman’s Supper Club on July 3. … Chetek’s Dan Conway will serve as the grand marshal in the Liberty Festival Parade. … Nine-year-old Mitch Hessel, of Chetek, won the championship at the Thunderhill Speedway go-kart competition in Menomonie in the Junior 1 class.

The Chetek VFW Post, located at 102 Douglas St., was burglarized following its annual chicken feed fundraiser on June 13. Approximately $5,000 in cash and receipts was missing. Pete’s Landing, 121 Lakeview Drive, was also burglarized during the same time frame. … Jennings Law Office S.C. is now officially moved into their new location at 325 Knapp St., Chetek. Jennings began practicing in Chetek in 1981. … Karl Damroth and Jessie Myers, of Chetek, have been selected to participate in the Wisconsin School Music Association’s High School State Honors Music Project. … The Rev. Earl Kammerud, a former pastor at Chetek United Methodist church for about 10 years, is retiring from the ministry.

Mark Gilberts, a member of the U.S. Navy Dental Corps, will deploy to the Expeditionary Medical Facility in Kuwait for a six-month tour of duty in support of the Global War on Terrorism. … Chetek Advent Christian Church is making plans to celebrate 125 years of ministry. … The Wisconsin American Legion’s Badger Boys State program opened at Ripon College with Chetek students Lukas Marty and Brandon Zeman in attendance.
