In a technology driven world, and at our fingertips, shopping at local establishments is becoming a rarity. “Add to cart” is becoming a part of our normal vocabulary, and impatience grows when we do not get our products in the two-day shipping window we were promised.

As shelves at chain stores start to become bare, and ships at sea aren’t able to port, our local businesses are becoming a crucial part of holiday shopping.

Supporting and shopping local small businesses is now more important than ever.  Not only are more people shopping online, but many businesses have seen a decrease in sales due to Covid-19.

The Saturday after Black Friday has been named Small Business Saturday, and this year it falls on November 27. Small Business Saturday first started in 2010, when American Express encouraged people to shop at brick and mortar businesses that are small and local, rather than big box stores. It has continued since then.

Chetek is full of all kinds of fun shops and boutiques filled with unique items, so finding that perfect gift may prove less daunting than it seems.

-Meat for the freezer from Antczak Angus.

-Treats from Candy Corner Creations.

-Custom barn quilt from Barn Art by Megan.

-New lures or gear from Rod & Gun Sport Shop.

-Pontoon or kayak rental from Lake Country Marina.

-Artwork from CJ Connor Art Studio.

-Bowling and pizza night at Chetek Lanes.

-Membership or round of golf to an area golf course.

-Gift certificate for dinner or drinks at one of the local restaurants and bars.

-Gift certificate for salon services.

By not “adding to cart” and changing a couple of gifts on your list to local ones, your purchases will have a huge impact on our small businesses and Chetek’s overall economy.
