The Chetek Police Department’s Lt. Jessica Larson and officer Travis Hakes, pictured above, went to the aid of a whitetail deer fawn on Wednesday afternoon, July 10. A driver reported she had hit a fawn on CTH SS on the south side of Chetek, and the young animal had run off. Larson and Hakes found the fawn, which was just dazed. They left the fawn alone, as whitetail does often leave the young in secluded places as the adults feed. Larson said the next morning the fawn was gone and there were adult deer tracks, and she figured the mother had found her fawn.
