Chetek musician Dylan Martinson auditioned for “American Idol” in Chicago, Ill., on Sept. 21. While he wasn’t picked to go into the next round, he said his audition went really well.

For his first song, he performed “Walking in Memphis,” by Marc Cohn. The judges liked his performance enough to ask him to play a second song, which was unexpected, he said. For that, he played John Meyer’s version of “Freefallin.’”

Unfortunately, it just wasn’t the right song and he wasn’t picked to go on to the next round of auditions, Martinson said.

Martinson, a 2017 graduate from Chetek-Weyerhaeuser, has been playing guitar at local establishments professionally for the past year and hopes to make it a career. He plans to audition again for both “American Idol,” and “The Voice.”
