Seven members of the Dallas-Sioux Creek Fire Department and 11 fire instructors with Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College conducted a controlled burn of the old Sioux Creek Town Hall on Saturday, June 22. The firefighters conducted firefighting drills inside and outside the building before setting the building alight. Also assisting were the Chetek Ambulance Service and two members of the Chetek Fire Department, who were hauling water from the Red Cedar River, nearby. Steve Lee, chief of the Dallas-Sioux Creek department, noted there were regulations the department had to follow from the Department of Natural Resources before a burn can be done, but it was good training. Pictured above, the north end of the town hall collapses as firefighters spray water to knock down burning embers and protect nearby trees.
