Wagon_Hudson_Coaster

When Roger Stertz, of Bloomer, was reading The Chetek Alert last week he noticed a Hudson Coaster wagon in the Picture from the Past photo of the New Auburn Farmers Store. Roger and his wife Kay own a Hudson Coaster wagon, just like the one pictured in the Nov. 4, edition of the newspaper. The Stertz’s wagon was originally owned by Kay’s uncle Clarence Bowe who grew up in Cook’s Valley, south of Bloomer. The wagon was his as a child and was built sometime around 1910 according to Roger. Hudson Coaster wagons were built by the Hudson Manufacturing Company of Minneapolis and Omaha. Hudson Manufacturing built stanchions, drinking cups, cupolas and more for barns. Roger restored the wagon to its present condition. He also owns a replica of the wagon that he built using an original set of wheels that he had. Roger is a 1958 graduate of Chetek High School and a faithful reader of The Chetek Alert.
