Pontoon Olympix, the annual fundraiser in support of Chetek-area charities, is Saturday, Aug. 17. Registration has closed for this year’s event, but organizer Kelly Timm said that 40 teams with 353 people will be competing on Saturday.

Each team picks a country, decorates and dresses up as that nation and then competes in various games at Gilligans, Pokegama Lakeside, Somerset, Lynda’s Lakeshore, Wolf’s Den and Red’s. Team captains will meet at the Hydroflite’s Water Ski Show Site at 10 a.m. to pickup T-shirts, maps and instructions.

The games kick off at 11 a.m., with the 40 teams breaking up into eight groups of five boats.

The ending ceremonies will be at 6 p.m. at Reds. First-, second- and third-place awards will be handed out for the best dressed teams. Gold, silver and bronze awards will be handed out for the games.

Last year, Pontoon Olympix raised $4,800 and has supported the Chetek Food Shelf, Christmas for Kids, Walleyes for Chetek, Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Area Scholarship Foundation, Coats for Kids and Chetek Area Veterans Memorial. It has also paid school lunch accounts and adopted a family at the school for Christmas.
