Calhoun Memorial Library is going fine-free.
In order to allow library users to be able access resources without concern about accumulating fines, Fine Free Friday kicks off Friday, Feb. 14. All materials in the library’s collection will be included in this program. Those who currently have fines at Calhoun Memorial Library will have those fines forgiven; however, fines will still apply and be collected for any late materials borrowed from a MORE system library that continues to implement those fines. Patrons will still be sent overdue notices—books and movies will continue to have due dates and will be expected to be returned. Damaged and lost fees will still be assessed according to library policy.
Chetek is the 23rd library in the 50-location MORE system to go fine-free. For information about the fine-free program, inquire at the checkout desk. MORE is Wisconsin’s digital library system.
Used Book Sale
A used book sale will be held from Friday to Monday, Feb. 14–17. Items will include children’s books, DVDs and audiobooks. Anyone wishing to donate items may bring them before Feb. 14. Money raised will be used for library programs.
Calhoun Classic Cinema
The library is beginning a new program called Calhoun Classic Cinema.
The library will screen “Sorry, Wrong Number,” starring Barbara Stanwyck and Burt Lancaster, at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21. Released in 1948, the movie, a drama and film noir that was shot in black and white, is about a woman who overhears what she believes to be a murder plot on a telephone and then attempts to prevent it. It has a runtime of 89 minutes. The movie is free and no registration is required. The library will supply water, coffee and popcorn. Attendees may bring their choice of snacks and beverages.
Calhoun Classic Cinema will take place at 1 p.m. on the third Friday of each month. The library is located at 321 Moore St., Chetek.
