The Chetek Area Book Club is meeting in the library. This group meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month.

The selection for Aug. 24 gathering is “The Inheritance of Loss,” by Kiran Desai. This award-winning novel addresses the issues of immigration and post-colonialism. The selection for Sept. 28 is “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents,” by Isabel Wilkerson. In this nonfiction work, the Pulitzer Prize winning author examines the Indian, Nazi and American caste systems.

The library will begin hosting the Barron County Aging and Disability Resource Center’s Beneficial Bites nutritional education program at 1 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Beneficial Bites is based on making small changes and adding healthy food choices to our diets. The subject for Wednesday, Aug. 25, will be peaches.

The ingredient for Sept. 22 meeting will be apple cider vinegar. Recipes and yummy samples will be available at the 45-minute programs.  

The kids summer reading program continues to meet on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. The books for August all include animals. The craft project for Wednesday, Aug. 18, is a mouse puppet. The craft for Aug. 25 is a fluffy sheep.

All programs are free; no registration is needed.
