A woman from Chetek was airlifted after her motorcycle collided with a deer on Saturday evening, June 29.
The crash happened just before 9 p.m. on Saturday, on CTH D near 27th Street, east of Chetek.
Chetek Ambulance Service, Chetek Fire Department and Barron County sheriff’s deputies responded to the crash, along with the Life Link III helicopter.
Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said 46-year-old Tammy Jo Tchop was the driver. She had suspected serious injuries and had not been wearing a helmet at the time, Fitzgerald said.
The woman’s husband, Bob Tchop, said she was hit by a deer. She was airlifted to the Mayo hospital in Eau Claire.
“She’s doing okay,” Bob said, adding that she had surgeries for multiple, major wounds on her neck and legs. “Fractured left wrist and two broken fingers on her left hand,” he added.
Bob went to retrieve Tammy’s motorcycle, which had been left along the road after the crash, but it was gone. He said it likely had been stolen between 10 p.m. on Saturday and 4 a.m. on Sunday, June 30.
He asked anyone with information on the motorcycle to contact the Barron County Sheriff’s Department at 715-537-3106.
