Icy roads are a suspected factor in a fatal crash on Hwy. 8 near Weyerhaeuser that killed a 28-year-old man from Bruce, and injured a 64-year-old Chetek woman, said the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The crash happened at 7:52 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, on Hwy. 8 at Cranberry Lake Road, west of Weyerhaeuser, Rusk County. Names were being withheld by authorities, pending notification of family.

The state patrol is investigating the crash and found that a 1997 Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling west on Hwy. 8 when the driver lost control and collided head-on with a 2014 Dodge Ram.

Rusk County sheriff’s deputies, Rusk County EMS, Marshfield Medical Center Ambulance and Weyerhaeuser Fire Department responded.

The driver of the Tahoe, the 28-year-old man, was killed. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Ram, the 64-year-old woman from Chetek, had incapacitating injuries and was taken to a local hospital. She was wearing a seat belt and her injuries are nonlife-threatening. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
