Chetek’s second three-day wine walk is next week, Tuesday, July 27, through Thursday, July 29. Shoppers will be able to sample wines at local businesses and have the chance to win several prizes and a grand prize valued at $500, sponsored by Charter Bank.
Proceeds from the second yearly wine walk benefit a community cause. This year, Curtie Cares will be the beneficiary.
Curtie Cares, started and operated by Curtis Harrison, of Bloomer, provides free rides to people in need in the Chippewa Valley area. Last year, Curtie Cares gave 160 rides to people who needed transportation to the grocery store, the bank or even a doctor’s appointment. The service is supported via donors.
For the wine walk, there will be 400 stemless wine glasses available for $20. They come with a book of 31 coupons, a bag to carry the wine glass in and a punch card. The custom, hand-painted wine glass was made by local artist, Julie Wilson. It is decorated with flowers, in the style of hearts, similar to the heart-shaped logo of Curtie Cares.
Fifteen local businesses will be offering wine samples and wine glasses will be available at 14 of the businesses. See the ad on Page A9 for wine glass locations and the businesses’ hours. An additional 14 businesses will be participating in the wine walk and welcoming shoppers during the event.
“We’re going to have punch cards like we always have,” said Lori Trowbridge, one of the wine walk organizers. “If you go to all the businesses in the three-day period and turn that punch card in, we’re going to have a gift basket [door prize drawing].” This is an additional door prize along with the three gift baskets, two packets of gift cards and the grand prize.
For every $10 spent at the wine walk businesses, shoppers will have an additional entry entered to win one of the gift baskets, the gift cards or the grand prize. Two entries come with the $20 wine glass.
The prize drawing will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 29, at Main Street Park, between Ohde Pharmacy and the Chetek Bakery. The winners will be announced in the following edition of The Chetek Alert.
