Vice President Kamala Harris narrates a video where she states, “… there’s a big difference between equality and equity. Equality suggests, ‘Oh, everyone should get the same amount.”’
She continues. “The problem with that [is] not everybody’s starting out from the same place. So if we’re all getting the same amount but you started out back there and I started out over here, we could get the same amount, but you’re still going to be that far back behind me.”
Besides being rambling, the thinking is typically flawed! Another Democrat policy that does not consider the human right to define one’s own utopia and one’s own dreams. Harris does not consider human creativity, innovation and tenacity.
If a government advocates that everyone must have the same or they are privileged racists, then, for equity to be successful, a government must define what every person may own and do. For example, a government would be empowered to state that each person is allowed 900 square feet of living space for the first person in a family and 100 square feet per each additional person. Each person may have a bike, food stamps, clothing stamps and energy stamps. Each person will have the right to the same amount of everything.
Equity will disappear within days. Someone will find a way to use “trash” to create inventions which make their kitchens more serviceable, their bathrooms more relaxing, their bikes run more easily and the exterior of their homes more visibly pleasing.
Others will not value the things given to them. They will ignore them and not care for them. The bike will be tossed on the ground, left in the rain and soon will become nonfunctional junk. Their home will be in poor repair, and their clothes will only provide protection from the elements.
People will be jealous of what others have. Divisions will form, and the government will have to fine those who improve their lot and fine those who do not care for their property. Similar to the action the government took against people who refused to buy health insurance.
Equity ignores the fact that, for some, living in a high-rise apartment is heaven. Walking to all amenities is the joy of their lives. Others love to live in a little shack in the woods surrounded by nature. Some need to live near others who share their interests. Musicians, artists, scientists, etc. have a tendency to seek out others who challenge or reinforce their talents.
Equity is another liberal policy that will destroy all that is unique about humanity. It will destroy innovation and creativity.
Equality, however, is a guarantee that each human has a right to dream and to fulfill those dreams. They have a right to decide how to live their lives. If anyone or anything tries to prevent them from fulfilling the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, they may take legal action and regain those rights.
