On behalf of the Chetek High School Class of 1964 reunion committee, I would like share with your readers that two citizens of Chetek stepped up and saved the day.
The planning of the 55th reunion began in 2018 and Pokegama Lakeside was the venue chosen for the event.
The activities began with a tour of the high school and Chetek Museum on Friday, July 19. The hosts for the two locations were most informative and appreciated. As we are all aware, on Friday evening, a violent wind storm swept through Chetek and other surrounding towns leaving the vast majority without power.
Due to the massive electrical outage and no power at Pokegama, we rescheduled the reunion for the following day. Classmates were contacted via text or voice on the schedule change. Sunday morning, July 21, it became clear that Pokegama Lakeside was not going to be available. Abby, Pokegama Event Coordinator reached out to John Law at Chetek Lanes and Event Center and explained our situation.
We were fortunate no other reservation was made for Sunday and the decision was made to change the venue to this site. Again, the committee reached out to the classmates to come to the bowling alley. John deserves a medal! He was so understanding and contacted his staff to expect a group of 52 people in three hours and prepare the room, prepare the adequate number of pizzas, set up the drinks, help the committee to put up the tables and lay down table cloths, hang banners, set up a sound system with mics and many, many tasks.
Without his help, the weekend would had to be cancelled and the classmates that traveled great distances and expense would have been stranded.
