(Note: This is Chetek Mayor Jeff Martin’s response to a letter from Wayne Weisser, of Eau Claire. To Weisser’s credit, the original article did not specify who donated the meals. Now we know.)

In last week’s paper, you wondered why I didn’t buy the meals locally for Police Chief Ron Ambrozaitis and Lt. Jessica Larson in Chetek, instead of buying them at the Cameron House. I have a quick explanation.

I didn’t purchase the meals at all. I was the delivery boy. For National Law Enforcement Week (May 11–18), Cameron House provided meals for all the police officers and deputy sheriffs on duty throughout the county that day (and there were a lot of meals that were distributed around the county that day!). They needed someone to deliver them to our officers and I was that guy.

But you do have a good idea for next year. Perhaps some of our local restaurants could do the same for our local officers. It would be a nice gesture.

I did buy a dozen donuts from Chetek Bakery and gifted them to our crew that week, in case you were wondering.
