Last week [Aug. 15–21] put a horrible, black mark on America’s reputation at home and around the world as we helplessly watched the tragedies unfold in Afghanistan. As I write, it continues. ... Another totally unnecessary travesty as the man currently called President continues to dismantle America the world had come to know and depend on.
Locally, three events gave us hope that freedom and the America we believe in is still alive. At the Barron County Board of Supervisor’s monthly meeting on Aug. 16, citizens really turned out, speaking respectfully and articulately against the county mask mandate and in favor of the right to make one’s own choice.
One week later, Aug. 23, citizens again resoundingly turned out for the Rice Lake School Board meeting with the same messaging, again speaking respectfully and articulately.
And the biggest boost to my spirit was the Second Amendment Rally at the fairgrounds on Aug. 21, put on by the Barron County Republican Party. What a turnout! What great speakers! What an encouraging event to be with so many like-minded people!
This is what America was meant to look like! Local government—in many forms—is what it takes! Write a letter, call your congressman, attend a meeting, run for a local position. Maybe it’s just standing up. Whatever it is, do your part! We need you. Let’s keep freedom alive!
