Wanda Dahlberg

Wanda Mae (Lenbom) Dahlberg, age 89, passed away Sept. 8, 2020, after a brief illness while receiving hospice care at Edgewood Senior Living in Blaine, Minn.

Wanda was born in Rice Lake, Wis., to Clinton and Iva (Weldon) Lenbom on April 18, 1931. Wanda grew up on her family’s dairy farm outside of Chetek, Wis. When she was 10, her family moved to a farm four miles north of Chetek. She was baptized and confirmed at Chetek Lutheran Church and graduated from Chetek High School in 1949. After attending two years at St. Olaf College, in Northfield, Minn., she stayed home to help on the farm after her father died unexpectedly in August 1951.

In 1952, she married Carl E. Dahlberg from Solon Springs, Wis., at Chetek Lutheran Church. They lived in Cloquet, Minn., until 1959 when they moved to Solon Springs where Carl worked for the family business, Dahlberg Light and Power Co.

Wanda was active at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where she taught Bible school, sunday school, and was a member of the WELCA and the Sarah circle. Wanda organized and directed a women’s chorus, adult choir and the church’s bell choir. She held numerous leadership positions at the church. She sang at funerals, local talent shows and in community choruses. She wrote and presented a series of monologues of women from the Bible. Wanda was active in the PTA and homemakers and sold Avon for many years. She enjoyed traveling, music, reading, ceramics, crafts and needlework.

After Carl retired, they spent winters in Apache Junction, Ariz., and Wanda worked as the activity director at Weaver’s Needle RV Resort. In 2012, they moved to Arden Hills, Minn., to be closer to their family, and in 2016, they moved to Valley City, N.D. After Carl died in 2018, Wanda moved to Blaine, Minn.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Kathryn and Mary Ellen; and son-in-law, Richard Ellsworth.

Wanda is survived by her children, Steven (Chris) Dahlberg, of Blaine, Paul (Margaret) Dahlberg, of Valley City, and Sandra (Craig Israel) Ellsworth, of Lincolnshire, Ill.; grandchildren, Kevin Dahlberg, Amanda (David) Wheeler, Nathan (Kat) Coda, Brian (Dillon Bogenreif) Dahlberg, Peter Dahlberg and Taylor Ellsworth; great-grandchildren, Malin Wheeler, Calvin Coda and Berit Wheeler; and her brother, James (Donna) Lenbom, Chetek. She is also survived by six cousins and many nieces and nephews.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, a memorial service and burial will be held when we can gather safely. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, PO Box 227, Solon Springs, WI 54873 or to a charity of your choice.
