Charles A. Brekken, 81, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, on Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018.
He was born at his home in Barron County on Aug. 2, 1937, to Olin and Mildred (Davis) Brekken. He married Mary Jane Dunstan on Feb. 11, 1967, in Lake Forest, Ill. Charles loved his life as a dairy farmer. He was a lifelong learner, getting his college degree and then attending four years of divinity school. He enjoyed studying the Bible and shared his knowledge by leading a Sunday school class where discussion was encouraged. He loved playing the piano, enjoying old-time hymns as well as music from the ‘40s and ‘50s. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mary, of Bloomer, Wis.; sons Mark (Christie), of Belleville, Ill., David, of New Auburn, Wis., and Timothy (Rachel), of Bloomer; brothers Wayne (Carol) Brekken, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Clyde (Connie) Brekken, of New Auburn; sister Ona (Mel) Cruts, of Mount Vernon, Mo.; and grandchildren Nicolas, Jonathan (Morgan), Steven, Lainey, Lydia, Luke, Levi, Landan, Lillian and Laura.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son in infancy, Michael.
A memorial service will be held at the Bloomer Baptist Church on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018, at 3 p.m.
