Merlyn J. Olson

Merlyn J. Olson, 79, of Chetek, Wis., passed away on Thursday, Sept. 19, at Atrium Post-Acute Care in Chetek.

Merlyn was born on June 22, 1940, in Cameron, Wis., to the late Sigval and Violet (Flynn) Olson. On Dec. 5, 1959, he married Sara Howard.

Early on in his marriage, Merlyn worked for Madison Silo and then went on to farm and work at Chetek Feed Mill until he retired. He was passionate about farming, gardening and hunting. He looked forward to the weekends so he could cheer on his two favorite teams, the Badgers and Packers.

Merlyn is survived by his wife, Sara Olson; son, Carlie (Shelley) Olson; daughter, Melinda (Bill) Peterson; brother, Larry (Kathy) Olson; sister, Karen Olson; grandchildren, Bryant (Katelind) Olson, Andy (Sadie) Peterson and Jordan Peterson; along with many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Sigval and Violet Olson; brothers, Orland Olson and Eldon Thompson; and sisters, Laverne Hensel and Marvel Larson.

Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, at Chetek Lutheran Church at 1419 Second St., Chetek, starting at 11 a.m., with a visitation starting an hour before.

Services will be officiated by Pastor Guy Redfield. After the conclusion of the service there will be a luncheon.
