Francyne “Fay” Sarna Hamholm, 82, of Apache Junction, Ariz., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12. 2021, at Banner Heart Hospital, in Mesa, Ariz.
Fay was born Nov. 11, 1938, in Chicago, Ill., to Jack and Frances (Korenic) Sarna. She moved with her family to Twin Lakes, Wis., in 1956. She married Roger Hamholm Oct. 18, 1958, in Twin Lakes, Wis., and she did the bookkeeping for his business, Riteway Plumbing, which he started the following year. They moved their growing family to Chetek, Wis., in 1968 after purchasing Pokegama Inn Resort, and she continued to do the bookkeeping for their plumbing business as well as run the resort. After owning/operating Pokegama for 10 years, they sold it and she pursued a career in real estate, working at Nelson Real Estate. She also worked as a waitress at Pokegama Supper Club and as a secretary for her son Mark’s business, Almena Truck Center, from 1987-1997. They moved to Las Vegas, Nev., in 1997, where she was employed at various businesses for a number of years, including a gift shop in one of the casinos, Joann Fabrics and Rite Aid Pharmacy. In 2015, they moved to Apache Junction, Ariz., to be closer to their daughter and family.
She enjoyed camping with friends in the Wisconsin Dells area early in their marriage, was a den mother when her sons were in scouts, enjoyed making crafts and mushroom hunting with friends, liked going to garage sales and flea markets, loved the western/desert look, going out into the desert to watch the wild horses and snowmobiling in their early years.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Larry) Avery, of Chetek, Wis., and Rhonda (Wayne) Cap, of Apache Junction, Ariz., and two sons, Mark (Melodee Eckerman) Hamholm, of Cameron, Wis., and Brian Hamholm, of Chetek, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Lennette (Jason) Erickson, of Cameron, Wis., Leslie (Jeremy) Montour, of Forest Lake, Minn., Lucas Avery, of Bremerton, Wash., Jake, Payton and Wallace Cap, of Apache Junction, Ariz., and Allison Hamholm, of Chetek, Wis; two brothers, Ronald (Patti) Sarna, of Lake Oswego, Ore., and Bruce (Carmen Alfonso) Sarna, of Lake Geneva, Wis.; a nephew, Dave (Linda) Sarna, of Lake Geneva, Wis.; a niece, Jaclyn (Josh) Bellamy, of Lake Oswego, Ore.; and a great-nephew, Truman Bellamy, of Lake Oswego, Ore.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Fran Sarna; and husband, Roger.
Superstition Cremation & Funeral Services, of Apache Junction, Ariz., assisted the family.
No funeral services are being planned at this time.
