Suzan Kay (France) Huntwork, age 83, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Nov. 5, 2022, attended by family. Suzan was born in Eau Claire Wisconsin to Velma (Mikesell) France and H.G. (Bud) France on March 21, 1939. She attended the Chetek schools, graduating with the first class to graduate from the then new high school in 1957. Suzan married Paul Huntwork in June 1962. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Aurora (Illinois) College with majors in Music and Education, serving in Aurora, Minneapolis, and suburban school systems. Her proudest achievement was teaching a class of 40 at-risk first graders how to read. They all passed.
After teaching, she volunteered at a local nursing home and was immediately added to the staff. For 17 years, whenever there was a situation that needed to be handled with empathy, love and competence, they would call on Suzan.
Suzan’s true vocation was her love for Jesus: teaching Sunday School, organizing and leading Bible Studies and spiritual retreats, some co-ed, some women only. She was a true prayer warrior. A prominent pastor once proclaimed her a living saint.
Suzan is survived by her husband, Paul; son, Paul Hewitt Huntwork; daughter, Marin A. Paul; granddaughter, Ani Cordero; brother, David France; nephews, Terry and Shawn Biggart, Michael and Ryan France; and niece, Jneya France. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Nancy (France) Biggart; and her niece, Brenda (Biggart) Friedrich.
In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, the family requests donations be made to favorite causes.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be determined.
