Mariah Bilodeau, 16, filled her archery buck tag last week, harvesting this nice 8-point buck on Thursday, Nov. 5. The junior at Chetek-Weyerhaeuser was hunting by herself between Chetek and Cameron on Wednesday, Nov. 4, when the buck was on his feet cruising for does. He eventually wandered into range of Bilodeau’s stand and she deployed her crossbow arrow at the deer, roughly 20 minutes before last light. Bilodeau and her dad, Mike, tracked the deer that evening but lost blood and decided to back out of the woods until morning. With Mariah at school early Thursday morning, Mike and his brothers, Arllyn and Joe, found the deer just 20 yards from where they last found blood the previous night. After a quick phone call, Mariah was able to leave school for a bit to claim her harvest and take photos with her family members. This is Bilodeau’s second buck with her crossbow and biggest buck to date.
