Jan Sobus, of Chetek, has to be the Fish-O-Rama king. The local resident reeled in the third $500 tagged fish of the 2019 Fish-O-Rama contest, while fishing on July 2. According to Sobus, it’s the 25th tagged fish that he has caught in his times fishing the Chetek Chain of Lakes. The avid angler said it’s the second $500 tagged fish he has caught, and over the years, he has also caught two $100 fish, one $50 fish, roughly 10 $25 fish and the rest were $5 fish from previous years. Sobus, left, caught the $500 7.5-inch bluegill while fishing with a Gulp! Minnow and a chicken jig on Chetek Lake. Pictured with Sobus are April and Rick Kershaw, owners of Pokegama Lakeside Tavern & Grill, who was the fish sponsor. The Fish-O-Rama contest began May 4 and ends Oct. 1. Anglers must purchase a button prior to catching a tagged fish. Buttons are available at several Chetek resorts and businesses and are $3 each, $5 per husband-and-wife couple or $6 per family.
