A two-out unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning lifted the Rice Lake Weighing Systems Orangemen to a 1-0 win over Falstad Accounting Services in the 40th postseason championship game of the Red Cedar Men’s Fastpitch League.
Alejo Munoz led off the inning with a triple, which tipped off the glove of the Falstad right fielder with his back against the outfield fence. Munoz raced home with the game-winning run four batters later when Dalton Thomas’ infield ground ball was misplayed.
Munoz’s hit was the first and only hit given up by tough-luck losing pitcher Max Loew.
Winning pitcher Nic Siebenliest also allowed just one hit, a second-inning double by Leo Dardeanelli. Both pitchers recorded 17 strikeouts. Loew surrendered six bases on balls, one of them intentional Siebenliest issued two free passes.
Weighing Systems player-manager Travis Thompson led off both the first and third innings by walking and reached third base on both occasions—each time he was stranded.
Falstad center fielder Miles Kraczek advanced to third base in the top of the third inning after reaching base on an error but was unable to cross the plate.
RLWS had won the regular season crown the previous week with the Accountants finishing as runner-up.
The Orangemen advanced to the final with a 7-1 victory over The Bar/Hoots on the Water. Faccundo Gonzales claimed the pitching win over Tomas Kuperman.
Gonzales also led the way offensively with a single and double in two official at-bats. Munoz also doubled while Thompson, Noah Anderson and Riley Toufar all had base hits.
The Bar/Hoots on the Water’s only tally came on a second-inning home run by Kuperman. Kuperman also singled, as did Chris Hanson and Kevin Drost.
Falstad Accounting earned its spot in the title match by posting a 10-0 triumph over Spare Time Bowl/Becker’s Trucking.
Loew, Dardeanelli and Kraczek all homered for the winners, while Ben Thurs, Cullen Hanson, Dusty Reul and Tomas Machuca all had base hits.
Singles by Dan Arianz and Tyler Stoner were the only hits for Spare Time/Becker’s.
