Running in the annual Spooner Invitational usually means two things: it will be hot and it will be hilly. Last Thursday (Aug. 30) afternoon, while the course remains perhaps the second-hilliest course after Hayward in the Heart O’North, it was actually a beautiful day to race.

The Chetek-Weyerhaeuser girls’ golf team started last week with an early-morning trip to Frederic Golf Course to take on the Clayton Bears, Luck-Unity-Frederic and Barron Bears on Aug. 27. On Thursday, Aug. 30, it was a trip to Superior to take on the Spartans and Spooner Rails.
