Teams should begin signing up for the fourth annual Duggy Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament at Sunset View Golf Course, which will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7.
The 18-hole event will begin at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cost to play is $50 per person and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, prize money and a $10 donation to the scholarship fund. There will also be a lunch and beverage cart available throughout the event.
Anyone can participate in the golf event by forming a four-person team, by filling in on an existing team or by being a hole event sponsor.
Those who are unable to participate can still donate items for prizes or make a monetary donation.
Many Chetek and Barron County residents, police departments, fire departments, sheriff’s departments and first responders knew Nelson personally or by the uniform he wore. He was a police lieutenant and volunteer firefighter in Chetek for over 30 years.
For his service to Chetek and Barron County, it is the wish of the Nelson family to establish a scholarship in Duggy’s memory. The scholarship(s) will be intended for a graduating senior(s), with no discrimination on the basis of sex, race, religion or ethnic background, who has plans to pursue a career in law enforcement at a vocational/technical school, college or university. The scholarships are also available for future firefighters and EMTs.
This past May, three seniors from the surrounding areas received $500 scholarships.
To sign up, donate or for more information, contact Sherri Nelson at 715-764-9029, Dale Nelson at 715-458-5541 or Sue Norton in the Sunset View golf shop at 715-859-6311. Checks should be made to the Duggy Nelson Memorial Scholarship Fund.
